Saguaro National Park

We set off for the border, in Texas, hugging the border most of the way. Why Texas? Consensus in the On the road in Mexico Facebook group deems this border to be the most boring (least dangerous). We have been to Mexico several times and know better than to listen to the media but our friend turned our eye to the US state dept warnings which seemed to riddle our road trip plans in Mexico with red flags, so we took it to heart and decided on crossing at Eagle Pass, Tx, 3 days away.
We said goodbye to my parents and headed for Saguaro National Park outside Tuscon, Az for the first night. It remained over 100F. We stopped for lunch in El Centro and opted for some Japanese food with Mexican styling. I had the sushi burrito: a giant sushi roll. We pulled into Gilbert Ray campground at sunset. It is a tidy campground with clean bathrooms and a dump station. Hardly anyone else was there. Hiking proved painful with dead cactus debris littered on the trail poking holes through Christine's sandals.
