Long day to Piste
Just a long day in the RV. We left the state of Chiapas and entered the Yucatan. We had planned on stopping earlier but heavy rains curtailed any cenote visiting and we just kept pushing to the town of Piste where the ruins of Chichen Itza are. We have been here before twice and both times stayed at this hotel. It allows RVs to park and guests to use their pools which we did after dinner. Entering Mexico the area by the highway have looked similar to Texas, cacti, ocotillos and scrubby bushes. Eventually this gave way to lush mountains and what appeared to be wheat fields. As we headed to Palenque sugar cane fields appeared the forest was jungle-like. Yesterday the ground flattened out and with a glimpse of the gulf of Mexico it looked like the Florida keys. We have been in Mexico for only 8 days. It has relatively good toll roads and has allowed to us to make a fair distance in a short amount of time. I am not sure we will be able to drive as fast after Mexico. We plan to spend a couple days around the Playa del Carmen area before entering Belize.
