looking for a clean Airbnb on the Riviera Maya

Despite how changed this campsite is from 10 years ago, the light filtering through the palm trees and the white soft sand took me back 10 years ago when we were on our motorcycle trip and ended up spending a few weeks here.

The water is warm and the surf gentle and I love it. We had morning beach time before the noon checkout. We had arranged for an Airbnb 20 minutes south near Akumal, but I had planned on doing an oil change, so we headed to Playa del Carmen to get supplies, but Christine looked up an oil change place that opened tomorrow so I didn't buy any oil. Google search does not reveal any quicklube oil change places while you sit in your car. I am reluctant to drop off the van with all our possessions in it, and there are too many things to empty it out in an Airbnb.

We stopped for lunch at "King Burger", as Dd calls it, to buy their kid's meal that comes with Transformers toys. We warned him those free toys would not be great, but he and Ellie were happy nonetheless. No regrets. They had an indoor playground and we hung out there for over an hour and most importantly and astoundingly, they finished their lunches.  At the Walmart, there was a platoon of security dressed in army gear. Since we would be in a condo for three days, I wanted to buy some pool snacks. 

We headed down to Grand Sirenis to find out Airbnb. The mapped location given to us was wrong so we wasted 30 minutes looking for a location behind the hotel.

On the bright side we saw iguanas, coatimundi, and a monkey.

When we entered the condo there was a musky smell then I noticed small turds on the ground and we promptly went back to the van and cancelled our stay. I had found another place as a backup plan 30 minutes in the opposite direction, and after 20 minutes with Airbnb we had our money back. Unfortunately this other place required notification ahead of time that we would be checking in. And their google map location was wrong.

When we arrived there was a dead roach on the ground and maybe roach turds. We had to text the management agency and they came and cleaned up the evidence and it was getting late and there was some drama of not staying there and the kids were exhausted. In the end we stayed and things were fine. There was no hot water and the washer had an error because of it but otherwise no more bugs.
