Mexico!
We headed to the border early so we could beat the queue for the Banjercito, the agency that handles the temporary vehicle importation permit for our RV, required for all vehicles that enter Mexico outside of the Mexico Free Zone, 25 km from the border, Baja, Quintana Roo, and part of Sonora. We have an RV so it only costs $50 for 10 years. There is a Banjercito at the border as well as Allende, around 30 km into Mexico. Sometimes the line can be hours long. As it turns out there was no wait for the visas ($40 for each of us, good for 180 days). I was able to get all of our visas by myself. I was third in line for the Banjercito and I was back to the car by 930. We google mapped our way to an ATM and hit the road, staying on highway 57. We passed an enormous industrial complex with soccer field, which ended up being a corona beer plant. It was gorgeous and enormous. We stopped for brunch. I had some tacos and Christine had barbacoa. The kids had a hamburger that they said tasted funny. The Mexican toll roads are in mostly good condition but we passed a few car accidents and road repairs and security check points that slowed us down. Late in the afternoon it started to rain and we made it to a rest stop halfway between Saltillo and Matehuela. The rest stop was 24h with a cafeteria and souvenir store and showers and a small playground. It was surprising great. They had some ice cream just because.
