Finca Canas Castilla, Costa Rica

Wonderful sleep, but unfortunately I broke a small vase in the room. I woke up early for whatever reason (border crossing mornings) and we had another loaf of freshly baked French bread and some fresh fruit and juice. We declined the offer of scrambled eggs and packed up to go. The hill was steep but paved out of their village and we headed to the border two hours away.
The border was big and organized and we were directed to park and immigration and customs was fast. We were out of Nicaragua in 40 minutes amazingly ($16). We met some Germans in a MAN truck and they were there for 90 minutes. We drove to the Costa Rican side and waited behind a queue of bus passengers but otherwise it was efficient and quick. We had to pay for insurance before getting our vehicle permit but the office was closed for lunch (30 more minutes) so we chatted with the Germans who we had caught up to. Ute and Uwe (www.travel2u.de) have been on the road for 4 or 5 years since before COVID.  We were headed to the same campground for the night. Insurance was $55 even though we had purchased insurance that covered Costa Rica allegedly while in Guatemala. Everyone wants their share of the tourist buck.
We were only 20 minutes from our campground and passed miles of semi trucks waiting to cross the border. Miles.
At the turn off for the campground the scenery was immediately cleaner and well groomed compared to the previous central American countries. I'm not sure if this is just luck or first impressions. It was dirt road to the campground and we saw and met two other families in overlanding vehicles one in a Hymer class A from Europe with Patrice and Auralia with their twins Hugo and Liam from France and Madagascar and a German couple in a Russian made UAZ 452 off road camper. Ute and Uwe were planning to meet up with the German couple.
Immediately we saw monkeys in the trees all over. What a delight. The kids played with Liam and Hugo. I borrowed some leveling wood from Uwe. We made some pasta using leftover sauce from our first night in Antigua, and I ate the leftover pizza a week old. Christine made some chicken and vegetable soup. This place has potable water and power outlets at the campsites and clean showers and bathrooms. It is great.
