Cartagena day 7: Bocagrande
We decided to fly to Medellin tomorrow for a few days while we are waiting for the RV. The flights are around $60 even the day before. It would be a 12 hour drive and finding parking and camping in a city is not easy, so it would be perfect to go there while we are waiting for the RV.
We met up with our new friends at the beach this morning and spent six hours there. They were staying on the other side of the walled city on a spit of land called Bocagrande. It acts as a breakwater for the harbor. There are fifty skyscraper condos and hotels there and it is much nicer than our side which is called Marbella. We rented four chairs under an umbrella for $2.50 each and bought food as vendors came by. We bought some oysters for $1 each, mangos for $2.50, ceviche for $11, box lunch for $2.50, sausage sticks for $1.25, ice cream bars for $7. The ceviche locally is cooked already instead of raw and is mixed with mayonnaise and ketchup. It sounds terrible but it is good. I had an order of both natural and the ketchup mayo and we all shared it. The box lunch was fried chicken, rice, and lentils. We didn't finish it and a vendor came around and asked for it so he could finish it.
The kids had a blast helping the sand cliff erode more and found a clay deposit and made bowls. They collected bottle caps. They were so happy playing with English speaking kids.
We said our goodbyes and headed back to our Airbnb and the kids decided to stay in for the rest of the night. We finished up groceries we had bought. We will be back when the RV is in town.
