Carthage of the Indies

We took an Uber to explore the San Felipe de Barajas Castle, the fortress that protected the walled city of Cartagena. Cartagena was the major port for the Spanish Empire for gold and silver to go back to Spain and slaves to arrive to South America. It is basically a pyramid. There are tunnels in the walls. We explored the tunnels which were cramped and poorly ventilated and had massive puddles because of the recent rains. Good fun. We then walked to the Getsemani district and their colorful wall art. We saw sloths and monkeys at the park for free, as it turns out. We were decompensating in the head and found refuge in an air-conditioned brunch place with slow and pricey service but the food was good. Christine had breakfast tacos and the kids split a cheeseburger. Ellie didn't like it but Dd ate it all. I had a fried chicken sandwich. We had some drinks too ($38). We walked to the walled city which was so cute. It was the most touristy and pretty town we have been to on this trip. We found some gelato and granizado and Ellie bought a bracelet. We took an Uber back to the Airbnb and did more homeschool before sunset and hung out at the pool and steam and sauna room.
We had leftovers for dinner. It is much more quiet on the streets tonight now that it is the end of their long weekend. I will need to make contact with the shipping agents to get an update.
