Happy Thanksgiving
Another great night of sleep in the RV but disappointed that I wasn't awaken by the rumble of 40 semi trucks starting at 530 am. No opening of the blockade and we told ourselves we might wait until 10am but we decided to drive away in the opposite direction toward Medellin and forgo Barichara. It would be a six hour drive to get to a finca, or farm we had found iOverlander. We saw palm oil orchards and locals harvesting palm nut bunches.

Kids in dugout type boats in the flooded areas. Fish being caught and sold by the road. Tall bridges passing over wide rivers where ferries used to operate. A few barges of some sort of fuel. There were tall termite mounds in an old orchard. There were empty schools, kids walking home in uniform, and kids not in school. No more road blocks.
We stopped for lunch at a place on iOverlander and met a Swiss couple who just arrived to Cartagena after shipping from Belgium. They were in a unimog without air conditioning. They were going to Mompox which we had just driven around, and said it was a UNESCO heritage town.
Lunch was a plate of chicken and a plate lamb and a couple limeades ($13).

We continued on to the finca auraviva overlander and camped in their yard for $22. The kids played with a three year old there and there were pigs, cows, horses, goats, dogs, and chickens. We hope to milk some cows tomorrow morning.

It's a shame that you'll have to miss Barichara. I think it's the prettiest pueblo in Colombia. Mompox would've been nice too, but I've never been there. Two pueblos past MedellÃn that are worth visiting are JardÃn and Jerichó. We enjoyed them both. Salento is also pretty and near the valley of cocora which is worth going to. When we go to Colombia we usually stay in Sabaneta, which I saw that you already had a chance to enjoy. Good travels!
