Sabaneta

At breakfast they had ribs. I have never seen that before and I tried one and it was great.  Dd made himself a ham and bread sandwich.  The good news is that the Artemis, the ship scheduled to carry our RV to South America departed Colon, Panama last night. The bad news is my gps tracker does not show any movement but the battery may have died although the device shows the battery is still ok. The shipping company received confirmation that the RV was on board with an ETA today but as to when we should head back to Cartagena, it was not said. It still could take one or two days to off load the flat rack. I thought we might have to fly back tonight to start paperwork tomorrow but I was not given the greenlight by our agent. Meanwhile the hot water heater was determined to be broken by the maintenance guy and the aparthotel was full tonight without any other units available. They assured us the hot water would be fixed tonight and offered to let us shower in another unit if we needed to right now. I asked them if they could dry our laundry and they took our wet laundry and assured us it would be brought back later today. With nothing else to do we went off to explore the small suburb of Sabaneta just south of Medellin about 30 minutes away. We started walking to the metro station but we gave up as it was warm and moods were low and took an Uber to Sabaneta park.
The square has a church and some restaurants and coffee shops. There are a couple blocks closed off to traffic. There were about 80 pigeons being fed by a man and they nested in the trees above, which explained all the power washing equipment around. There were still Christmas decorations being hung. Banuelos, cassava flour and cornmeal fried doughballs were sold everywhere. We stopped at a restaurant with outdoor seating and had a chorizo, banuelos, empanada, a tinto (Colombian coffee), and a cold Milo (Ovaltine type drink) ($9). We then went to an ice treat shop. It's hard to call it an ice cream shop. They sold fruit bowls which contain ice cream and mozzarella cheese, ice cream with mozzarella cheese, ice cream, and obleas, a water snack dressed like a crepe but with mozzarella cheese. The obleas was all right. No one else finished their ice cream. We then ubered back to the hotel and they had replaced the water heater but the floor was a mess and they were still cleaning up, so we went to the mall playground next to us. It turns out it was for toddlers so Ellie didn't have a great time. Dd met a kid and they swung in the swings saying Hola and ciao to each other as they swung past each other. It started sprinkling so we went to the McDonald's across the street that had a towering play structure that Dd had admired when we pulled into town. He kept bringing it up everyday. We went and bought a couple sodas and hung out for two hours while the kids played. The rain came down hard. For dinner we went to the grocery store and made pasta and sausage for dinner. No more news from our shipping agent so we might stay another night in Medellin.
