Popayan

We had to wait for the restaurant to unlock the front gate before leaving. I spoke with a Swiss man in a land cruiser last night and I tried to ask him questions but he was someone reticent so I just filled up water and dumped the cassette while waiting for the gate to open. The kids played with the dogs. There are no shortage of cute dogs to play with on this trip.
Popayan is a UNESCO heritage site for the colonial white washed buildings. We walked around the town center before people were out of church. We went grocery shopping for an hour and came out and the center was busy already.
We had another long drive today and had a late start due to stopping in Popayan and would not make it to the border today. The drive was steep and slow and the car engine became alarming for hot coolant and we turned off the air conditioning and the temperature drifted back down. 246 F is the point when the temperature gauge on the dashboard will drift back down and 253 F is too hot. The jungle disappeared and was replaced by dry scrub brush and cacti. The weather was less humid and the dirt was red and dry. The gorge we drove across was deep and amazing to witness keeping one eye on the temperature gauge. I have a Scanguage3 which monitors many things including oil, coolant, and transmission temperature through the OBD reader.
We stopped an hour before sunset at a gas station, motel, restaurant complex on iOverlander. The clouds and fog rolled in. We had leftovers and fed the apple pie to a pitbull lingering around.
