Cuenca
It was a great night sleep in the cul de sac. Christine had made a dentist appointment for this morning yesterday afternoon and we drove to the dentist office and parked and had breakfast while Christine had her tooth looked at. $50 later she came out with a numb face. She was worried about a tooth because of discoloration not because of pain and the dentist found a reason to drill a small cavity elsewhere. I have seen this happen before in Thailand. I am not a dentist but I am a little suspicious.
We stopped to fill up some water at a gas station. I love gas stations. I can fill up gas, water and dump the cassette and gray water.
We went and drove through the old quarter of Cuenca and parked and the kids took out their scooters and we explored the quarter. The kids chased pigeons and we bought some strawberries and had some pizza and ice cream and it was great. Cuenca is beautiful and there are more affluent people here and quite a few expats. It is a UNESCO heritage site but it seems like everywhere is nowadays.
We decided to head out of town a couple hours on the road to the border.
The drive was beautiful. The scenery changed to red and white cliffs and desert landscape but then changed back to jungle. We stopped at a gas station for the night and asked permission to stay since it was a couple that owned it and it was not open 24h.
We are heading to the coast for faster driving but trading off for hotter temperatures and more even bugs. Tomorrow Peru.
