Cusco day 3
The sun was shining this morning and it was hot in the sun.
I dropped off laundry and we went down to the square and bought some ice cream that was a little like coldstone ice cream although we didn't know it at the time. That was our lunch. I didn't have any.
In the square we couldn't resist the allure of a baby lamb.
We took a uber to a playground but the playground was closed for some reason. We waited a long time for an Uber to go back to the hotel because rain clouds loomed overhead. Christine had some street food for 80 cents. It was potatos and a hard boiled egg. She didn't finish it. The seller had a toddler sleeping under a blanket next to her. The poverty in Peru is humbling at times.
We warmed up in the hotel with hot tea and went back out for an early dinner. We had some pho and pizza and sticky rice with mango.
We went back to the laundry place to pick up our clothes and I changed into long pants and put on a sweater because it was in the 50s and the sun had disappeared. We went to an overlook and walked down to a small square with a church that had some festivities underway with food tents and band players. We went back to the main square and the kids played red light green light but it was pretty windy so we climbed the hill back to our hotel. The cobblestone streets of Cusco are pretty but we have to constantly look out for dog poo in whole or smashed smears. They sit in the crevices and with the rain the whole street is riddled with poo. Dd already stepped in some on the first day and got some on both shoes and his pant leg. I bought a toothbrush to scrub it out. Also climbing the hills to our hotel is tiring at 11,200 feet. Even running around playing tag leaves us quickly out of breath. We are flying back to Lima tomorrow and we will miss Cusco but we also miss the RV.
On the way back to the hotel we passed a band procession for the holiday. There were masks and costumes and whips.
Back to the room for hot water shower that was continuous and did not run out. What a luxury.
