Fitz Roy
It was 40 F last night but it was nice and warm under the covers. We had a late wake up and the other vans had already left. We headed back to El Calafate to fill up water and gas and headed toward El Chalten the gateway to Fitz Roy. There were a few hitchhikers leaving town and at the turn off for El Chalten but we didn't pick any up because we didn't have seatbelts for extra passengers.
The skies were clear and the mountain ranges on the distance were white with glaciers. The distinct outline of Fitz Roy appeared and we stopped to take photos all along the way.
We saw another gray fox at a turn off waiting for food from some picnickers. We met a Colombian family in a self built overlanding truck 8 months into their two year trip.
We met a German family in their massive expedition truck. They also had a year off and were at their midpoint. They were filling up their 1500 L water tank. They said it took around 12 hours to fill. They had three AC units running on 24v but only could run it for two hours before they had to start their generator.
They were parked at the first public RV gray and black water dump station we have seen on this trip. It was free.
We headed off to drive the town and ended up at an ice cream place. It was cheaper to buy a container of ice cream and I convinced the family to do this instead of individual ice creams. They were not happy. But they included two cones so all was better.
We were going to do a hike but saw a playground and the kids played for two hours. When it became cold we went to get dinner. The place we chose had only outdoor seating left. The food was good but slow. The kids played with the German kids again.
