Horseshoe Island
We stopped here to explore the time capsule of a British Antarctic station from 70 years ago. Dad made his third landing here. The station had a diesel engine and electricity and people expected to stay here for 24 months. We saw fur seals and Adelaide penguins.
From there we went 35km to Blind Bay for our polar plunge. We had lunch first, then a safety meeting about the plunge. They didn't let the kids do it but they said they would bring a bucket of water and let them touch it.
I sat in the sauna to warm up and fell asleep. Humpback whales surfaced a 70 yds away. I was the last jumper of the guests and it was quick and refreshing and it was surprisingly warm once I got out of the water and I didn't need to take a shower or anything to warm up. It was quite the buzz like after completing a hard rock climb.
This was the last activity for the trip and we had a three day crossing to make it back to Ushuaia. I tried to enjoy the glaciers and the surrounding mountains. It was so beautiful.
