Patagonia

It was nice and toasty under the blankets and the sleeping bag last night. We had a slow wake up because of the cold and the kids played outside even though it was very windy. We left the parking at 11 and went to the supermarket to buy some stuff. I spent some time asking about shipping an inverter to Ushuaia or Punta Arenas. I tested the AC and it worked. But it was cold out so I'm not sure that's a real world condition.
We bought some groceries and went to dump and fill water and headed for El Calafate.
We saw so many guanacos on this drive. Every few hundred feet there was a herd.
We headed inland toward El Calafate whose name I keep confusing for Cafayate which was in wine tasting region.
We passed many vans going in the opposite direction which was concerning. At one point cars were lined up for a mile or so being a police check point at La Esperanza. Then we noticed semi trucks for race teams and passed a race track and realized there must have been a big event that finished. The Patagonian winds buffeted us and when a semitruck passed our windows whistled. We stopped at a lookout and I checked the sunroof because there appeared to be a small air leak.
We could see the mountains in the horizon before we descended into the valley and clouds overtook us and it began to rain.
We stopped at the YPF gas station and filled up and found parking next to the other vans.
I spoke with the Brazilian couple next to us. They were on an 18 day trip. He gave us a sticker.
El Calafate is famous for being close to Perito Moreno glacier which we hopefully will see tomorrow.
