Florinopolis
We spent the morning playing in the warm water and finding auger snails. We normally find the empty shells but there were lots of live small snails and we collected them before the next wave took them all away. The kids wanted to play in the waves. We had a good morning.
We headed an 1.5 h south to the island of Florinopolis which is pretty touristy with beaches all around the island. We stopped for lunch in the busy city at an Arabic buffet and I found myself seated in front of four photos and showed the kids that I had been to all four locations in the Arabic world. They were Petra, the Blue Mosque, the Dome of the Rock, and Cappadocia. I was having flashbacks of my 2004-6 backpacking trip around the world. We had some wonderful food that was a little less flavor than I remember but still fun to eat. We also had a some Turkish delight and baklava. We then walked to the central market and wandered the stalls. I picked up a USB 3.0 cable and bought Ellie an analog wrist watch. We then drove to yet another Decathlon and the kids bought some stuff for themselves: leg warmers for Ellie and a mini basketball for Dd.
It was getting late and I tried to fill up my water at a gas station but was turned away. We ended up checking out a boondocking site in the dark but it was muddy and not appealing. We ended up at a paid for campsite for $26 and there was a playground for the kids and they met some other kids to play with. A Brazilian couple pulled in right after us and we struck up conversation by the power pole. They spoke excellent English and had lived in DC in 2006 stationed there for counterterrorism work and traveled Canada and the US. They were retired now and on a four week road trip from Brasilia.
