La Rocha to Parque del Plata
We woke up to the dog barking outside for breakfast. When I opened the door and went to dump the cassette he came bounding up and went up to the window and barked for food. We were able to fill up the water and headed out to the other hand in the desert. It was in Punta del Este. It is a very upscale beach condo community. We stopped to buy groceries, mostly fruits and vegetables since we were not supposed to bring fruits and vegetables across the border from Brazil. No one checked, but they could have. The groceries were more expensive than Argentina. Uruguay has the reputation for being the most expensive country in South America, being on par with Europe. We had spent $60 there and we didn't buy that much.
We continued on to the hand. We took photos there and the kids climbed on the thumb but apparently the signage said not to climb on the structures.
We then headed to sugar loaf rock, similarly named to the more famous one in Rio. There was a free zoo and playground there so we visited it.
From there we drove to a designated motor home parking area by the beach with a dump station. It was free too. The kids played on the sand and Christine made dinner. Uruguay seems very nicely developed and wealthy. The roads are great and the road side stands are well built. Yesterday we drove on a section of highway that was also a flight line. It had a heading painted on the road. We will only be here for a few days because we need to get to Santiago.
