Leaving Brazil for Uruguay
It was so cold this morning but we used the scheduled the heater to come on at 730 and it made getting up a lot easier. Low was 49F. We have gotten used to warmer weather in the past two months since Patagonia.
The campground is on a beautiful property next to the Brazil and Uruguay border. The breakwater is the border.
We were able fill water and then spoke with the Brazilian overlanders and then headed off to the grocery store Makros. It was freezing there and it had a hardware attached to it. Upstairs was a warm restaurant and we had an excellent buffet there for $28 for all of us.
We went to fill up gas and dump cassette and gray water and then drove through town. The border was the main street that was dividing the town but there was no sign signifying the border. Past the town is the Uruguayan immigration control and customs for entering. It was a fast process and we entered Uruguay proper. The land was flat and there were tufts of grass. I am not sure if they are tree trunks that became termite mounds and then covered with grass or if they are tussocks of grass. There were a lot of cattle grazing. Uruguay has the highest beef consumed per capita.
We had a late start and so we didn't make it as far as we wanted. We stopped at a free municipal campground next to a lake and fed a hungry dog that barked by the window where the smells of the kitchen wafted out. The kids roller bladed around until dark. The sky was beautiful. The campground is a bit rundown. But there is a fishing village next to us and there are lights that came on and toilet and water faucets and cold showers presumably. Uruguay is very well groomed by the highway. We had to sign up for a license plate account for the tolls which we have not come across yet. We will hit five of them for a total of $18 which I already paid on the account this morning. I also had to register our car on the website for the customs which made getting our TIP fast.
