Rio Grande to Chuy
It was a surprisingly cold night and we had to use the heater this morning. Fortunately the sun was out and it warmed up to 57F. We tried to go to see some penguins at a rescue center but many things are closed on Mondays. We went to Cassino beach close by which is apparently the longest sand beach in the world at 132 miles. It runs from here all the way to Uruguay. The beach is not pretty but people drive on it. There is a sizeable shipping port here with many industrial plants for loading ships with fertilizer and such. There was a massive yellow crane we could see from so far away.
The beach water had brown water from the river run off and the surf was choppy and no one was in it. The kids played a little on the sand but it was pretty cold. We went back to the RV to have lunch then headed out of town to find some water and dump. We did this at a couple gas stations and continued toward the border. We passed through a natural preserve with capybaras. We came upon the Brazilian immigration and customs house outside of Chuy which surprised us. We turned around and went to check out of Brazil which only took 20 minutes. A Dutch expedition truck headed into Brazil with only one occupant.
We drove toward the beach to a campground and it took a bit to get in and have them open the gate. It was after 5pm. There were a couple other Brazilian campers there and they both spoke English. One of them just finished their three year pan am trip 3 months ago shipping back to Argentina from Jacksonville. It was too cold to stay out so we stayed in and had dinner and then movie and popcorn. We enter Uruguay tomorrow.
