Santiago day 8

After breakfast I went to get some laundry done while the family was in the room. After that we went to the Plaza de Armas, the main square in Santiago with the cathedral and post office and museum of fine arts. It was crowded and we walked to Santa Lucia hill and the fort on the top. It was a hazy day so the views were not great. It was supposed to rain today but the forecast changed this morning. From there we descended and walked around the Lastarria neighborhood around the bottom of the hill. It is a hipster area with street performers and a market by the museum of visual arts. We tried ice cream at couple different places -- not as good as Argentina's ice cream but still good with interesting flavors. There was a chocolate shop with free samples of its hot chocolate and it was amazing.
There was a playground we went to and Ellie fell off some monkey bars so we had to rest and took an Uber to Chinatown for an early dinner. It was cold but there was a propane heater inside next to our table; the kind of heater you see outside. We had some dumplings, fried chicken, sweet and sour chicken, green beans, and ordered west lake soup but it came out too late and we took it to go. It was kind of like the beef noodle soup last week.
We took an Uber back but the traffic was backed up for a while and we got out and walked back.
