Puerto Malabrigo
It was another nice free camp spot last night although some loud car music pulled up to us at some point then I fell back asleep. It never ceases to amaze me that cars will choose to pull up along side us with their thumping music late at night.
We had a late start but did not have far to drive. Christine was still feeling feverish and had a sore throat. I first headed toward another Tottus to do some snack shopping. There were body boards for $6 each but the water temperature was only 63 F so I didn't think body boarding was in our future.
There were rice paddies we drove by surprisingly and even a dragon fruit farm. There were sugar cane fields and trucks overstuffed with cane. I saw horses eating sugar cane.
We finally made it to Chicama aka Puerto Malabrigo, home of one of the longest left hand waves, up to 3 km long, according to the Internet. The iOverlander camp spot on the overlook was very windy but gave a great view of the point and the long wave that slowly broke. The surf was not very big but it was good. We had come here to meet up with Nico, Pauline, and their two kids Liam and Tia whom we had camped with in Guatape, Colombia. When they showed up, they recommended a camp spot lower near the beach in town and out of the wind.
We meandered back through the one way streets and found our way to the beach in town and it was considerably less windy and safer for the kids. The sand toys came out and they all started digging. The sun was beginning to set and Liam and Nico went off to bodyboard and the kids sat down to eat dinner. After dinner they all played some more. We stayed up talking until 9pm and then went inside to shower and wind down. They ate dinner around 9. They will stay another night here. We were not planning on doing this but we shall see.
